Nadan Parippu (Paruppu) Curry / Coconut Dal Gravy

Nadan Parippu (Paruppu) Curry / Coconut Dal Gravy is a traditional Kerala curry that is served during the celebration of the Kerala festival Onam as one of the Sadya feast gravies. This recipe is pretty straightforward and basic, but it’s definitely one of those super cozy and comforting simple gravy. If you flavor it right by blending in things like Coconut, Green chili, Cumin, and Shallots, then incredibly delicious things will happen! Of course, if you finish it off with seasoning and drizzle a little ghee over the paruppu curry at the end, it will make for a perfectly yummy Nadan Parippu (Paruppu) Curry / Coconut Dal Gravy.

Nadan Parippu (Paruppu) Curry / Coconut Dal Gravy is now ready to serve with hot cooked rice for Sadya!

Notes

  1. If the gravy becomes thick, add water when serving as per your desired consistency and reheat on stove top or microwave.
  2. Grind the Coconut into a very fine paste or else the gravy will have crunchy pieces, and you won’t be able to relish the full flavor.
  3. Drizzle some ghee on the gravy when serving it with rice.
